The Maggie Valley Sanitary District (MVSD) operates a surface water treatment plant and portable water distribution that serves the Town of Maggie Valley and surrounding areas including most of the Jonathan Valley area. The District was formed in 1968 to provide potable water service. Between that date and 1974, the water distribution system and the water treatment plant were completed. Service is currently provided to approximately 9,245 customers within the service boundary. The service area is bounded on the east by the service area of the Junaluska Sanitary District on US 19 at Dellwood, near the intersection of US 276 South. The service area boundary encompasses all of the Maggie Valley/Johnathan Creek area, following US 19/276 to the Haywood County/Jackson County line at Soco Gap and northward along US 276 North to Interstate 40.
